The Best of North East Tasmania

We all know Tasmania has some of the best produce in the world and it is grown in a beautiful clean and green environment. So while you are busy touring about on our trails you can get sampling the best of the freshest. The North East region of Tasmania produces large quantities of potatoes, carrots and onions, pork, beef and lamb and is a very large producer of milk.

Hardly anyone goes past Pyengana without dropping into the Holy Cow cafe, where you not only get to sample the cheese made by the Healey family for generations but you get to make real  milk milkshakes and ice cream.

In Bridport, not many people know we have our own micro coffee bean roaster. Yes tucked away in the hills is a family who purchase the beans and roast and blend the delicious coffee fresh every week, we have Pot Luck Coffee

in our accommodation.

Just up the road in Scottsdale, right in the main street is the Rhu Bru beverage  outlet and over the road is Rhub and Barb

preserves, relishes and all things tasty. Along in Victoria street is the award winning Cottage Bakery...this is where Murray and his team create the finest bread, best pies and delectable pastry treats.

If you are in Bridport during winter or spring you might be one of the lucky ones who get to sample some freshly shelled scallops.....nothing like a fresh Tasmanian Scallop.

If Sparkling wine is your tipple you must visit the Jansz wine room at Pipers Brook of course and right next door is the Pipers Brook vineyard and cellar door  where the finest of Pinots are sampled along with some lunch. There are five

other vineyards you could pop  into along the way: Delamere, Brook Eden, Leaning Church,

Dalrymple and Sinapius.

Of course if beer is more to your liking  Scottsdale's own Little Rivers Brewing company might be what you are

looking for, and along the trail a bit further is the Weldborough Pub, which serves many brews from micro

breweries around the State.

You should also drop into the Lilydale Larder to sample some delectable local wares and you shouldn't miss the Lavender scones or ice cream from Bridestowe Lavender Farm.

To finish your day enjoy a delicious meal at the Bridport Bay Inn where Mark and his crew will welcome you to the Captains Deck in Summer for a wood fired Pizza or you may prefer the A la Carte menu or daily specials in the dining room.
